TREND SPOTTING | White on white

One of the SS13 trends that we can't wait to try is White on White! There's nothing fresher than seeing an all white outfit, in any season. For spring we would pair our Palazzo Pants with a thin knit jumper and white accessories. Mixing textures like knit and jersey takes an outfit to another level. This outfit would also look lovely with a white Long Cami paired with a white blazer or the Long Sleeved Knot Top.

Doesn't this just look divine? Quinoa (pronounced keen-wa FYI) is our new favourite thing and Jamie Oliver has always been a favourite of ours :)

RECIPE | DINNER

We generally try to steer away from carbs at dinner time and stick to veggies and salads. So when we found this recipe on our favourite food blog Deliciously Ella we swooned, and when we tasted it we melted!



This recipe is amazing because it looks and tastes like we're eating pasta but in fact we are eating  courgettes! This is definitely a meal we'll be making again!

Serves 2:

For the pasta:

- 2 courgettes

For the sauce:

- 1 ½ avocados
- a large handful of fresh mint leaves
- 12 brazil nuts
- ½ a cup of water
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- ½ a lime
- salt to taste
- a dozen chestnut mushrooms

SNACK TIME

Most of us out there are snackers, whether we are at the office or on the couch it is difficult to not snack. We say snack away! Just choose the right ones. Here are 5 ideas that we love:

Graze Boxes

Graze boxes are great for a mix up in the snack routine. If you order a box you can eat the snacks throughout the day or even save them up throughout the week. The food is fresh and there is a variety of yummy foods on offer. 

Hummus with carrot sticks / wholegrain pitta

Hummus is a delicious dip that can be made at home or bought from the supermarket (go for the low fat option) it can be high in fat but it is mostly heart-healthy unsaturated fat. Also it is high in protein. 

Berries & natural yoghurt 

Berries are full of fibre which helps you feel full, making you eat less (which is exactly what you want in a snack!) and they are full of antioxidants. Why not take in a bowl of raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and cranberries to work and mix with some natural yoghurt.

 

Frozen grapes

Something we have been doing for a while is freezing our grapes! Jamie Oliver does it so we thought we'd try it too and we love it. By freezing the grapes the berries become sweeter and also the cold slows you down stopping you from over-eating. 
 

Guacamole and tortilla chips

The avocado is a super food and proof that not all fat is bad for you! Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fat that is easily burned for energy. As well as many other benefits, avocados have been found in lowering your cholesterol. This can either be made at home or can be bought at your local supermarket (again opt for the low fat!)

HAPPY SONGKRAN THAI NEW YEAR!

In celebration of Songkran, Thai New Year, we will be making Thai food this weekend! We love Thai food in general and the Masaman Curry is one of our favourite dishes so we found this recipe on the BBC Good Food website and thought we'd give it a go!


Slow cooker massaman curry



Ingredients

500g/1lb 2oz new potatoes, halved
800g/1lb 12oz boned lamb shoulder or beef shin, cut into matchbox-size pieces
3 tbsp massaman curry paste
small bunch fresh coriander, stalks finely chopped
5cm/2in piece fresh root ginger, finely grated
400ml/14fl oz can coconut milk
1 tsp light muscovado sugar
1 lime, zest and juice
1 tbsp fish sauce, plus extra to taste
6 freeze-dried kaffir lime leaves (optional)
handful roasted unsalted peanuts, roughly chopped, to serve

THIRSTY?

Water is boring and there are so many other exciting beverages out there that tickle our fancies, but it is so important to be hydrated. You are supposed to drink about 2 litres of water everyday. How many of us can say that we actually do?

That is why the next challenge we are setting is exactly that, drink 2 litres of water a day.

We recently read something interesting:

If you don't drink enough water, then your body begins to store water for you. Therefore when you do start drinking lots of water you need to go to the loo a lot. So you aren't urinating the water you’ve just drank, but the water that your body has been storing. Interesting, no?



A huge tip is to keep a bottle in front of you whether it is on your desk at work, at home or in your bag. This way you can visibly see how much water you have drank throughout the day.

BRA TALK

One of our lovely readers emailed us recently asking which type and brand of bra we recommend to go under JAMI garments.

We suggest wearing a nude or skin coloured T-Shirt bra to avoid any visibility through the material. Wearing a T-Shirt bra also ensures that there are no lumps and bumps and does not ruin the look of the item you're wearing.

It's also very important to make sure you are wearing the correct size bra. Did you know 8 out of 10 women are wearing the wrong size? Isn't that awful! Make sure you have been fitted correctly as ill fitting bras can not only ruin an outfit but also cause damage to your breasts!

30 DAY CHALLENGE

Something that has been going around the internet since last summer is the 30 Day Squat Challenge. This involves doing a number, which increases daily, of squats for thirty days and by the end of the 30 days you should see a massive improvement to your bum and legs. 

We're starting today and this is what we're doing:

Day 2-55 squats 
Day 3-60 squats 
Day 4-Rest 
Day 5-70 squats 
Day 6-75 squats 
Day 7-80 squats
Day 8-Rest
Day 9-100 squats
Day 10-105 squats

A tip that someone gave us the other day was to take a picture your bod before and then every few weeks to see how much you progress. These pictures aren't to show anybody else, just to help show yourself your accomplishments once your goal has been achieved. 

Why do squats?

  • Tones the Legs

  • Strengthens the Core
  • Increases Flexibility
  • Upper Body Workout

How to Do a Common Squat Exercise

  1. Stand with your feet hip width apart.
  2. Tighten and pull in your abdominal muscles.
  3. Lower your body as if you were going to sit in a chair. Keep the motion slow.
  4. Stop when your legs are parallel to the floor.
  5. Stay in this position for a few seconds.
  6. Now press down onto your heels and slowly rise back up to a standing position.
  7. Repeat the exercise for a total of 2 to 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps.
  8. Be sure to rest for 60 to 90 seconds between sets.
